The Oscars are mere days away. Will “Everything Everywhere All At Once” sweep? Will Steven Spielberg win a third Best Director statue? Will Angela Bassett be the first actress to win for a performance in an MCU film?
Who knows! What I do know is that some movies will win, some will lose, upsets will be had, and hopefully, nobody will get slapped again. Honestly, I don’t even know if I’ll watch this year’s ceremony because the season finale of “The Last of Us” is going to air at the same time. Twitter is gonna be insane.
Anyway, in preparation for this weekend, I realized that I have seen maybe 30 of the 94 movies that have won Best Picture. Lots of blind spots. So, to rectify that, I’m going to watch all of them in order, starting with 1927’s “Wings.”
I’ll publish newsletters every Monday and Friday, with the hopes of being done right on time to loop back for the 2024 Oscars ceremony. I’ll write a bit about each movie, what some of the other nominees were each year, what the historical context was for each ceremony, and so on. See where the year takes me.
So, enjoy the Oscars, and starting Monday, I’ll be writing about “Wings” and “The Broadway Melody.” See you then!
