As the internet’s foremost “Sahara” fan/scholar, it is my ironclad duty to remind you all that today is the 20th anniversary of this goofy, fun movie that should have launched a lucrative franchise.
Instead, it flopped hard, and there hasn’t been a Clive Cussler adaptation since. I wrote a little bit about that a few years ago in my 30 for 30 series:

But to celebrate the film’s 20th anniversary, I’m using this newsletter to celebrate Sahara Month, with four newsletters about the making of the film, its adaptation, the Cussler and the McConaughey and Breck Eisner of it all, and the lawsuit about its budget.
